What is a detention invoice?
A detention invoice is a charge issued to the shipper or receiver (whichever holds the driver beyond the agreed free-time window). The math is total on-site time minus free-time allowance, multiplied by the agreed detention rate per hour. The typical default in the industry is two hours free at pickup and two hours free at delivery.
Is this PDF legally defensible?
The PDF this tool generates contains every field a dispatcher already submits on a hand-typed detention invoice — broker, bill-to, load reference, start/end timestamps, free-time allowance, $/hr rate, line-by-line math, notes, and an authorised signature line. Once it is signed by both parties it is enforceable the same way a hand-typed invoice is. The generator does not add or remove any contractual provisions.
